IHF Men’s World Handball Coach of Year 2014!

Vranjes was the clear winner according to both fans and media. With 75.38% of the votes, he finished ahead of the French national team coach Claude Onesta who won 16.97% of the votes and the creator of the Qatari miracle, Spaniard Valero Rivera, with 7.66% of the votes.

Vranjes was a very successful player and already won many trophies on the court, but the last couple of years we have seen him take a very central stage in the coaching business. The Swede started his coaching career in 2010 in SG Flensburg Handewitt, taking over the position after already serving in the club as team manager since 2009. After his leadership SG Flensburg Handewitt qualified in the German Cup Final four times in a row from 2011 to 2014, but it will remain written in the history books that they lost all of these Finals.

In 2012, he reached European Cup glory for the first time having won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and he reached the pinnacle of his coaching career last year when he won the EHF Champions League. In the semi-final his SG Flensburg-Handewitt created the first major upset to eliminate FC Barcelona only in the Final to make even bigger success by defeating German arch-rivals THW Kiel.
