Vranjes and Machulla were so impressed with the 19-year young player, that they gave him a chance to stay. Lielais is now boarded in the Flensburg Akademie, where quality handball training is combined with school education, in order to integrate and develop young talents for a  potential career as a professional handball player.

Vranjes stated: ’’I am very pleased that it worked out for Toms at the camp, he now has a one year scholarship to prove himself. He will train with the first team as often as possible and play for the second team to develop his strenghts and to minimize his weaknesses. It is a fantastic chance for him, as it would be for every young player. ”
